Expecting a baby is an emotional time for every family and requires a passionate midwife to support them throughout the childbearing journey.
I am a passionate, registered midwife and experienced mother to my own four children. I have worked in the medical and natural health care industry for 20 years, gaining knowledge which complements my role as a midwife.
Originally from Australia, I completed my midwifery degree in NZ and now call rural Papamoa home.
I love my job and feel so lucky to share such a special time with women and their families. I work within a group of experienced midwives and support women who choose hospital, birthing centre, home and water birth.
I promote and protect natural childbirth, because I believe pregnancy and birth are natural life events. If complications do arise in pregnancy or birth I continue to provide collaborative care along side specialists to ensure the safest outcome.
I work in partnership with women and their families, sharing our knowledge to facilitate women towards making informed choices about their individualised care. I have clinics in Te Puke, Papamoa and Tauranga and also happy to do home visits if required.
Please contact me with any questions and I look forward to hearing from you.
Belinda Wawatai was our midwife from July 2014 through to April 2015. She was recommended to us by another midwife.
Due to our circumstances we were perhaps more nervous than most first-time parents. My husband Scott and I had had a difficult journey and eventually after four years of IVF treatments we had finally achieved a positive result.
From the first time we met Belinda she was kind, caring, sympathetic and exceptionally professional.
She was available in person or via phone to answer all of our questions, no matter how basic they may have seemed.
Belinda was sensitive to our situation in achieving this very precious pregnancy and took extra time with us at home visits to fully explain things. She was very understanding of our apprehensiveness.
I struggled with the pregnancy, suffering morning sickness from five weeks which did not end. Belinda kindly visited me at my home and continued to reassure me it would be worth it in the end - and of course it was!
At the birth, Belinda was amazing and it was probably then that I realised how much I had come to rely on her. In her delightfully calm and positive manner she encouraged me through the birth, which I found a comparative breeze compared with the eight months of morning sickness.
After India was born Belinda continued visiting us at home encouraging us through those very difficult first few weeks. She fostered independence but was always available for advice and to act as a sounding board when we needed it.
Scott and I would wholeheartedly recommend Belinda Wawatai to anyone who wants a midwife she is one of the kindest and most caring people we've met.
